So don't hold your breath, it'll run just fine. Running in 1080p? I guess we'll be able to get smooth (40+ fps) gameplay with medium/high settings w/o AntiAliasing and some of the most demanding gizmos turned to medium (shadows/water, draw distance) or even off (Ambient Occlusion which I find way to demanding given the outcome it provides).Textures, lightining, geometry to high. I have the same laptop as you/ sans CPU - it's a tiny wee slower i7-4710hq. The two cards are so neck and neck, seriously - whichever one is on cheapest special/sale the day you decide to buy. The 970 will give you Nvidia support (Which due to Nvidia's incredibly shitty horrible business practices means any game made for Nvidia cards will artificially run better on their cards - not because of better quality but because of shenanigans,) and has slight advantages over the 390 in some areas.

The 390 arguably will offer better return if you're doing multiple-monitor setups or playing at super-high resolution (And be totally useless if you aren't, as no game can ever take full advantage of so much GPU RAM which means the excess RAM serves only as a buffer for super-high res games or lots of monitors, and some people have argued even then it's not as helpful as AMD wants people to think,) and has slight advantages in some areas over the 970. Whichever one is cheaper - the price points are so close it's basically down to whichever one is on sale the cheapest the day you buy. You are in a shitty situation and from the sounds of it you won't be playing FO4 at launch with the rest of us, my condolences. Your current rig would make some 10YO shit their pants with glee over LOL/DOTA/Minecraft so it does have significant value (but not for long) Or you could buy a new rig without a new graphics card (total $300-$400), using your old one and then save up again for a new graphics card in the coming years. You will need to do some serious maths and budgeting, you have two options: Sell your current rig for $100-$200 (who knows maybe someone will pay $300) and put that towards a new build (total $500-$600).

That graphics card is OK and will run FO4 but if you are going for an upgrade I would sell it with your current rig and trade up for something better. It might load but you will not be getting anything resembling a stable framerate or a fun gameplay experience.Ī new CPU (needed) will mean a new Mobo which means DDR3 ram. That won't play Fallout 4 even with new RAM. ĭon't bother with new RAM, save for a new rig. In a title, if your post contains spoilers, begin your title with.
